The contract of cellist and conductor Tomas Djupsjöbacka as Principal Guest Conductor for the Lapland Chamber Orchestra has been extended for the season 2021-2022. Djupsjöbacka has been the orchestra’s first ever Principal Guest Conductor since 2019, and the orchestra has now decided to continue the contract with the additional one-year option. Djupsjöbacka last conducted The Lapland Chamber Orchestra in March, with Sivan Magen as harp soloist.
Tomas Djupsjöbacka is happy about the extension of his contract:” I feel that our work together has only just begun. I’m looking forward to our next projects together and deepening our shared musical experiences!”.
John Storgårds, the artistic director of the orchestra continues: “With his experience, personality and versatility, Tomas has brought that little extra for the work of the orchestra, and that is exactly what we hoped for. In addition, I think the orchestra has served as a suitable “laboratory” for his aspirations as an artist.”
Tomas Djupsjöbacka studied conducting at the Sibelius Academy, graduating in 2017. Djupsjöbacka is also a founding member of the string quartet Meta4, as well as member of the renowned Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He is also the Principal Conductor and the Artistic Director of the Vaasa City Orchestra.
