Linda Lampenius
Throughout her illustrious career, violin virtuoso Linda Lampenius has performed for audiences ranging from millions to heads of state and royalty. Known for her genre-defying versatility and adaptability as a musician, Lampenius is equally at home in classical music concerts as well as in more entertaining productions.
Linda began her violin studies at the age of 5 under the guidance of Professor Géza Szilvay. Her orchestral career began at the age of 8 with the Helsinki Junior Strings and continued at 11 as the concertmaster of the Helsinki Strings orchestra. Later, Linda served as the concertmaster for Jorma Panula’s conductor class orchestra and as the principal violinist for the Finnish National Opera Orchestra.
At the Sibelius Academy, Lampenius studied from 1985 to 1997, first as a youth student and later as a degree student with Ari Angervo and Päivyt Meller as her professors. She continued her studies in the United States as a private student of Professor Mauricio Fuks and attended numerous masterclasses in Finland, France, and Israel.
Chamber music holds a special place in Lampenius’s heart, and she has performed in various chamber music ensembles across Europe, Asia, and the United States. One of her established chamber music ensembles is a piano trio featuring pianist Laura Mikkola and Apocalyptica’s solo cellist Perttu Kivilaakso, occasionally joined by cellist Jaani Helander. Lampenius also actively performs as a duo with Kivilaakso.
Linda is a sought-after orchestral soloist and has performed not only with Finnish city orchestras but also extensively in Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Lampenius has collaborated with various artists and artist groups. She partnered with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber in the “Metal Philharmonic” production, where she was invited to be the soloist by the composer himself. Linda also engaged in extensive collaboration with the Irish Anúna choir in the “Celtic Origins” production, which aired on over 250 television channels in the United States. The production included a nearly 40-city tour across the United States as well as CD and DVD releases. The “Celtic Origins” album became the best-selling world music CD in North America.
Linda Lampenius is an active recording artist, with four solo albums to her name: the pop album “Linda Lampenius” (1997), the classical album “Linda Brava” under the EMI Classics label (1998), the album “Nordic Light” (2005) featuring folk tunes from Finland and Sweden, and “Angels” (2010), a collection of Christmas songs. With the release of the “Linda Brava” album, she became Finland’s best-selling classical music artist worldwide. Additionally, Lampenius has recorded rock songs with musicians from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s bands. In the fall of 2023, Lampenius will record songs arranged for violin and cello by Perttu Kivilaakso.
Linda’s biography, “Kesytön elämäni”, was published in 2021, with a new edition set to be released in Finland in October 2023. Around the same time, a four-part documentary series about Linda’s life and career will premiere on MTV3 channel.
Throughout this year, audiences in Finland have the opportunity to hear Linda perform, including a comprehensive Christmas concert tour with Perttu Kivilaakso and a performance at the Klasariklubi in Helsinki on October 24th.
