Jaakko Kuusisto is a regular guest both as a violinist and a conductor within the Finnish orchestras and festivals. Kuusisto served as the concert master of Lahti Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2012 and is currently holding the position of the Artistic Director of the Oulu Music Festival until 2017.
Lately he has been conducting the Minnesota Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra Avanti!, the Helsinki and Turku Philharmonic Orchestras, the Tallinna and Lausanne Chamber Orchestras as well as the Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, to name but a few.
Active also as a composer and arranger, Kuusisto's list of compositions include chamber music, film music, operas and also the orchestra arrangements for the popular ABBA, Queen and the Beatles productions. The latest of his compositions are Elämälle, an opera about composer Oskar Merikanto's life, which was premiered at Ilmajoki Music Festival in 2015, and Piano Concerto, dedicated to Dejan Lazic and premiered with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in April 2016.
